Baby Safety Month: Top Tips
Every parent wants the best for their baby and for the products they buy to be safe. That’s why the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) annually sponsors September as Baby Safety Month. There is a wealth of information available today for parents looking for safety tips regarding children’s products. We’ve narrowed it down to what we feel are some of the most important, to make sure you keep your baby safe every month of the year.
Strollers
- Always secure baby using straps
- Keep baby’s hands clear of pinch points when folding and unfolding
- Never leave child unattended
Car Seats
- Choose best seat for child’s age, weight, & height
- Back seat is the safest place
- Keep straps snug & tight
Bassinet Safety
- Ensure legs are fully opened and locked before use
- Only use the mattress provided by the manufacturer
- Always place baby to sleep on their back
Infant Carrier Safety
- Baby should be snug in carrier with head supported and weight evenly distributed
- Ensure baby is visible
- Use only when walking and watch out for items you could trip on
Mealtime Safety
- Always use safety straps whenever your child sits in the high chair
- Make sure the straps are well secured so that your child sits snuggly and is not wriggling around in the chair
- Never allow your child to stand in the high chair
